Please also read the General Rules.
1. Split Defined: a split is also a decant in the general sense. A split is also short for "bottle split" and is a procedure where a "host" organises for a group of participants (or buyers) the purchase of a bottle of fragrance, the collection of money, the decanting, and the shipping of a fragrance. The purpose is to enable members to buy or sample a fragrance in smaller quantities than a full bottle and at a cheaper per ml price than other sources.
2. If a proposed bottle to purchase is not new and unused, this should be disclosed in the posting.
Bottle split hosts may include more than one bottle in a split topic/thread if multiple bottles will be ordered together to save on shipping.
3. Remaining portions may be sold on the decants board by the bottle split host.
4. Split hosts should be upfront about expected costs. Normal costs to be divided among members include: the bottle of fragrance, credit card currency conversion charges, shipping to the host, and any GST if imposed. Other costs for the buyers to pay include cost of new atomisers or bottles to decant into and shipping of decant to the buyer.
5. A best estimate should be made about the per ml cost of a fragrance, but buyers must also understand that exchange rate fluctuations make it an estimate only.
6. The split host will normally keep the original bottle.
7. Repeatedly backing out of an agreement to participate in a split could lead to banning from the forum or a loss of posting privileges.
8. My founding vision for this board is for splits to be non-profit activities. Although, this will not be policed by moderators in any way, the host should give enough detail of the costs to allow members to judge for themselves whether the offer price is good and whether there is any profit for the host. Details such as where the bottle and atomisers will be purchased from should be disclosed.
9. The NZ Splits Board is a community message board. Its owners, administrators, and moderators are not a party to any transaction facilitated by the board. They also are not responsible for any loss you may incur in dealings with other members. As in any classified ad or online auction situation, use a bit of caution in dealing with anyone you do not know.
